Ocean Beach
01 Welcome To Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach, or “OB” as the locals call it, is a seaside neighborhood that is a few miles north of downtown San Diego and south of Mission Beach. OB is characterized by the laid-back lifestyle of its residents, beach front properties, and community events. It’s also a pet-friendly area where many of the residents can be found walking their dogs throughout the neighborhood or taking them to Dog Beach. Ocean Beach hosts frequent social events including a weekly farmer’s market, an annual street fair and chili cookoff, various festivals throughout the year, as well as parades.
The houses in Ocean Beach are a combination of detached and multi-family homes ranging from the mid 400s to the low millions, and the residents are a mixture of homeowners and renters. Many of the properties have optimized outdoor space with patios, decks, and terraces that are perfect for enjoying the coastal breeze and entertaining guests. Generally, the houses in OB are from the early to mid 1900s, and many owners have opted to preserve the original architecture and classic maritime elements while incorporating some contemporary fixtures.
Ocean Beach borders Point Loma and is a short walk from Sunset Cliffs where there is a vista point. If you go a little further south, you’ll be in downtown San Diego with more options for entertainment attractions. The Ocean Beach Municipal Pier is a popular spot among locals where they can often be found fishing or dining at the restaurant that sits atop the pier. On the main streets of OB, most of the businesses consist of locally owned bars, restaurants, and thrift shops. Ocean Beach is considered to be a family-friendly neighborhood, and there are two schools within the limits of the community.
